In 2009 Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) converted Munn Lake, Thurston County from statewide regulations to year round, catch and release lake in order to diversify inland opportunities in South Puget Sound. The change also provided a chance to study the effect of catch and release on the warm-water fish species. This rule change has received full support from the South Sound Fly Fishers (SSFF) and resulted in donations to supplement stocking.

SSFF has contributed catch reports and provided input to WDFW on stocking practices to help increase angler satisfaction and catch rates. WDFW has stocked fish of various sizes and densities. With funding from SSFF to supplement the cost of fish food WDFW has raised larger fish for Munn Lake.

SSFF and WDFW will continue to meet on the water to sample the catch and evaluate contribution of various stocking events to the creel.
